Why Is K-Beauty Restocking Taking Longer?

We'd like to explain why some of our K-beauty restocks are taking longer and what we're doing to keep our products affordable for customers across New Zealand.

How Exchange Rates Affect K-Beauty Prices

As an Auckland-based business importing authentic Korean beauty products, our purchasing costs are affected by international currency exchange rates.

Many of our suppliers and exporters require payment in US dollars (USD). This means that even though we operate in New Zealand, we need to pay for much of our stock in USD.

When the Korean won strengthens and the New Zealand dollar weakens against the US dollar, the overall cost of importing products can increase significantly. Even if the original supplier price remains unchanged, a weaker NZD means we need to spend more New Zealand dollars to purchase the same stock.

When these currency movements happen alongside supplier price increases and other importing expenses, the total cost of restocking can become considerably higher.

Why We're Taking a More Careful Approach to Restocking

With rising import costs, restocking some products at their current retail prices is becoming increasingly challenging. To cover the additional expenses, we may need to increase the selling prices of these products if we restock them now.

However, at Hive K-Beauty NZ, we believe that authentic Korean beauty products should remain accessible and affordable for customers in New Zealand.

We know that competitive pricing is important to our customers, and we want to continue offering good value without unnecessarily increasing prices.

Rather than immediately passing these increased costs on to our customers, we're carefully monitoring exchange rates and supplier pricing before placing some restock orders. Where possible, we're choosing to wait for more favourable conditions so that we can bring products back while keeping prices as affordable as we can.

This means some products may take longer to return, but it's a decision we're making with our customers in mind.

When Products Are Unavailable from Suppliers

Exchange rates and rising import costs aren't the only reasons for restock delays. Sometimes, products become extremely popular in Korea and internationally, resulting in high demand and supplier shortages.

For example, some popular SUNGBOON EDITOR ampoules have gained significant attention through viral trends and social media exposure. When a product becomes popular so quickly, suppliers can sell out of their available inventory, making it difficult for us to secure new stock even when we're ready to place an order.

As we rely on our suppliers for product availability, we sometimes have to wait until they receive new shipments. In these situations, restocking delays are beyond our control, and we may not be able to provide an exact restock date.

We continue to check with our suppliers and look for opportunities to secure stock as soon as it becomes available. We appreciate your patience while we wait for these popular products to return.

Why We Haven't Increased Prices on Our Existing Stock

You may have noticed that some of our currently available K-beauty products are still being sold at their original prices, despite the increase in importing costs.

Although we could increase the prices of our existing inventory to reflect the higher cost of future restocks, we're choosing not to do so at this stage.

Our current stock was purchased at earlier costs, and we'd like our customers to continue benefiting from those prices for as long as possible.

We believe in being fair and consistent with our pricing. While we need to manage rising business expenses carefully, we also want to avoid passing every increase directly on to our customers.

Whether we can maintain a reasonable and affordable retail price

Some products may return sooner than others, while certain items may take longer if supplier stock is unavailable or importing costs remain high.
